information about this setting, see "Enabling Session
State" in the product documentation ("Chapter 3: Managing
Sun Chili!Soft ASP" => "Managing the ASP Server"). The
Start Page is accessed from:
http://[HOSTNAME]/caspsamp
where [HOSTNAME] is the hostname of your Web server.
3.5 WEB SERVER AND DATABASE SUPPORT
Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2 may install to other versions
of the supported Web servers listed in the installation
requirements section in the QuickStart Guide (described
in section 3.2). However, versions not listed have not
been certified to run with Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2,
and their use is not supported by Sun Chili!Soft Customer
Support.
Likewise, Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2 may work with other
versions of the databases listed in the installation
requirements section in the QuickStart Guide, or with
database types that aren't listed. However, versions
not listed have not been tested to run with Sun Chili!Soft
ASP 3.6.2, and their use is not supported by Sun
Chili!Soft Customer Support. If you are using a
database that's not listed, but which has been supported
by Sun Chili!Soft ASP in the past, previous versions
of the product documentation can be found on the Sun
Chili!Soft Web site at:
http://www.chilisoft.com/caspdoc
3.6 CHANGING THE WEB SERVER AFTER INSTALLATION
During installation, you specify the Web server with
which Sun Chili!Soft ASP is configured to run. If
desired, you can change this ASP Server-to-Web server
association after installation. You can also change
other options that were configured during installation
(specifically, Java support and the "start on system
boot" functionality). For more information, see "Changing
Installation Options after Installation" in the product
documentation ("Chapter 2: Installing and Configuring Sun
Chili!Soft ASP" => "Installing and Uninstalling Sun
Chili!Soft ASP").
3.7 ADD-SERVER AND DELETE-SERVER LEGACY SCRIPTS
Do not use the ./add-server and ./delete-server legacy
scripts to change the Web server after installation.
Use ./configure-server, as described in "Changing the
Web Server after Installation" in the product
documentation ("Chapter 2: Installing and Configuring
Sun Chili!Soft ASP" => "Installing and Uninstalling
Sun Chili!Soft ASP" => "Changing Installation Options
after Installation").
3.8 STARTING THE APACHE WEB SERVER IN SSL MODE
The Sun Chili!Soft ASP Administration Console can be
used to start, stop, and restart the Web server with
which the Sun Chili!Soft ASP Server is configured to
run. Use the following procedure to start the Apache
Web server in SSL mode when Apache is started from the
Sun Chili!Soft ASP Administration Console.
NOTE: The steps in this procedure assume that the
Apache Web server has been correctly configured
to support SSL.
In the .installed_db file in the CHILI_INSTALL_DIR
directory, make the following changes:
1. Change:
webserver_start_script=/<ASP_INSTALL_DIR>/INSTALL/apachectl
"binary=/<APACHE_INSTALL_DIR>/bin/httpd"
"conf=/<APACHE_INSTALL_DIR>/conf/httpd.conf" start
To:
webserver_start_script=/<APACHE_INSTALL_DIR>/bin/apachectl
startssl
2. Change:
webserver_stop_script=/<ASP_INSTALL_DIR>/INSTALL/apachectl
"binary=/<APACHE_INSTALL_DIR>/bin/httpd"
"conf=/<APACHE_INSTALL_DIR>/conf/httpd.conf" stop
To:
webserver_stop_script=/<APACHE_INSTALL_DIR>/bin/apachectl stop
3.9 ZEUS WEB SERVER PREREQUISITES
If you are installing Sun Chili!Soft ASP to a Zeus Web
server, you must first enable NSAPI (Netscape's Web
server API) for a Zeus Virtual Server, and then copy the
NSAPI configuration file to the proper location. For
more information, see the installation section in the
QuickStart Guide (the guide is described in section 3.2).
Also, when configuring the Zeus Web server to run with
Sun Chili!Soft ASP, do not specify the Web server
hostname as the fully qualified domain name (or "server
address"). If you do, the Test DSN feature of the
Administration Console will not work. Instead, use the
hostname only. For example, do not use: hostname.domain.com.
Instead, use: hostname.
3.10 ODBC DRIVERS
Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2 includes the DataDirect Connect
ODBC 4.0 drivers (DataDirect is a former business unit
of MERANT). It also includes DataDirect SequeLink 4.51a
for remote connectivity to Microsoft Access and Microsoft
SQL Server 6.5 databases. See section 3.11 in this
README for more information about accessing these
databases via SequeLink.
In addition to the information provided in the Sun
Chili!Soft ASP product documentation, detailed
documentation for the DataDirect ODBC drivers can be
found on the DataDirect Web site at:
http://www.datadirect-technologies.com/odbc/odbc.asp
Note that the names of the drivers branded for this
release differ from those in the DataDirect documentation.
Where the name of the driver in the documentation
contains the string 'iv,' substitute 'YY' to obtain the
name of the driver in this release.
3.11 CONFIGURING SEQUELINK
Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2 includes the client portion of
DataDirect SequeLink 4.51a. The SequeLink client has
been prelicensed for use only with Sun Chili!Soft ASP.
You must download the server portion of the software.
You can download this server from the Sun Chili!Soft
site at:
ftp://ftp.chilisoft.com/chiliasp/sequelink/slkntsrv.zip
or you can download it from DataDirect at:
http://www.datadirect-technologies.com/odbc/eval/odbcdownload.asp
You do not need to purchase anything from DataDirect.
Enter 'EVAL' for the serial number and leave the license
key blank. You DO need to contact Sun Chili!Soft Customer
Support later for a utility to make this license permanent.
3.12 DATABASE FIELD SIZE-LIMIT PARAMETER
The casp.cnfg configuration file contains the following
parameter in the [ADO] section:
maxlongfieldlength=65535
The default setting limits the maximum data that can be
passed to a database to 65535 bytes. You can change this
setting to a higher value if necessary.
3.13 VBSCRIPT FUNCTIONS
The behavior of VBScript functions such as MidB, ChrB,
LeftB, and AscB depends on the byte ordering of the
hardware platform, and the number of bytes used to
represent Unicode characters in the system software.
The functions will produce different results on
different operating systems. The behavior described in
"Chapter 5: Developer's Reference" in the product
documentation pertains to the Win32 version.
3.14 ADO - UPDATEABLE CURSOR SUPPORT
Microsoft and Sun Chili!Soft use the Positioned Update
and Positioned SQL features of ODBC to implement the
AddNew, Update, and Delete methods of the ADO Recordset
object. For some of the supplied ODBC drivers these
features may not be implemented at all. For others, the
support is incomplete (such as for the SequeLink driver).
For these drivers, Sun Chili!Soft uses the implementation
of updateable cursors in the ODBC Driver Manager to supply
the missing functionality. This works well for recordsets
with fields that contain string or numeric data, as well
as a primary key, auto-increment, or timestamp field.
However, in recordsets containing binary fields or
recordsets with duplicate rows, note that updates, inserts,
and deletes should be done using the Execute method of the
Connection object. Connection.Execute will execute any
SQL statement recognized by the database regardless of
the capabilities of the ODBC driver. You can attempt to
use updateable cursors with your database by setting
the 'UseCursorLib' parameter equal to 1 for the
relevant DSN within the odbc.ini file.
3.15 MULTI-THREAD RECOMMENDATION
The number of threads handled by the Sun Chili!Soft ASP
Server at one time is set to 10 by default. If you have
many ASP pages that include blocking operations
(database access, for example) it is a good idea to
increase this number. Keep in mind, however, that doing
so creates more system overhead. A maximum number of
20 threads is recommended. For more information, see
"Configuring Multi-threading" in the product
documentation ("Chapter 3: Managing Sun Chili!Soft ASP"
=> "Optimizing Server Performance").
3.16 MICROSOFT FRONTPAGE 2002 SERVER EXTENSIONS
Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions are supported by
but no longer installed with Sun Chili!Soft ASP. You
must obtain the extensions from Microsoft. For more
information, see "Enabling FrontPage Publishing" in
"Chapter 3: Managing Sun Chili!Soft ASP" in the product
documentation.
3.17 INSTALLING TO A DIFFERENT LOCATION
If you are already running an older version of Sun
Chili!Soft ASP and you select a different directory
for the installation of Sun Chili!Soft ASP 3.6.2, you
cannot configure your new Sun Chili!Soft ASP Server to
run with the same Web server that is running with your
existing Sun Chili!Soft ASP Server.
3.18 MODIFIED DIRECTORIES and FILES
a. INSTALL TREE
All system files for Sun Chili!Soft ASP are
included in or below the [C-ASP_INSTALL_DIR]
that was defined during setup.
b. TCP/IP SOCKETS
TCP/IP sockets are reserved in the /etc/services
file during installation. All lines added are
commented with 'Sun Chili!Soft' in the trailing
comment line.
c. WEB SERVER CONFIGURATION FILES
1. APACHE WEB SERVER:
Changes are made to the httpd.conf file.
2. iPLANET WEB SERVER:
Changes are made to the obj.conf, magnus.conf,
and mime.types files.
3. ZEUS WEB SERVER:
Changes are made to the obj.conf, magnus.conf,
and mime.types files.
For more information about Web server configuration
files, see "Changes to Web Server Configuration Files"
in the product documentation ("Chapter 2: Installing
and Configuring Sun Chili!Soft ASP" => "Installing and
"Uninstalling Sun Chili!Soft ASP").
d. CHILI DATABASE
The /var/opt/casp/chili.ini file is created (or
appended to) for each installation of Sun
Chili!Soft products. This provides installation
information that will be used by future Sun
Chili!Soft products.
3.19 CONFIGURING A NON-DSO APACHE WEB SERVER
The following procedure applies if Sun Chili!Soft ASP
has been installed on a computer running an Apache Web
server that does not have Dynamic Shared Object (DSO)
support.
When you install Sun Chili!Soft ASP on a computer running
an Apache Web server, the setup program automatically links
Sun Chili!Soft ASP to Apache through Apache's module
facility. The setup program uses pre-built Sun Chili!Soft
ASP DSO modules to set everything up for you. However, if
you are running a non-DSO version of Apache, following
installation of the Sun Chili!Soft ASP Server module, you
must statically link the Sun Chili!Soft ASP module into
the Apache Web server as described in the following
procedure.
To configure a non-DSO Apache Web server
-----------------------------------------
1. Stop the Apache Web server.
2. Copy the files 'module/source/build/mod_casp2.c' and
'module/source/build/dispint.h' from the Sun Chili!Soft
ASP installation directory to the 'src/modules/extra'
subdirectory of your Apache source tree directory.
3. From the Apache source tree directory, type the
following (NOTE: If you have a custom configuration
of Apache, your settings might vary from this example):
#> ./configure --prefix=[WEB_SERVER_ROOT_DIR] --activate
-module=src/modules/extra/mod_casp2.c
where [WEB_SERVER_ROOT_DIR] is the root directory for
your installed Web server.
4. When the script has finished running, use a text editor
to add "-ldl" to the EXTRA_LIBS section of src/Makefile.
5. Return to the Apache installation directory and type:
#> make
6. Copy the new Web server files to the appropriate
location by typing:
#> make install
7. Installation is automatic. When installation is complete,
restart the Apache Web server, and then start the Sun
Chili!Soft ASP Server.
3.20 INSTALLING FRONTPAGE SUPPORT ON APACHE 1.3.19
This section describes how to install FrontPage support
on Apache 1.3.19. For the preconfigured ("bundled") Apache
1.3.19, see the procedure titled "For the bundled Apache

3. Uncompress and untar the FrontPage package.
4. Copy [FRONTPAGE_SOURCE_DIR]/fp-patch-apache_1.3.19 to
the Apache 1.3.19 source directory.
5. Type:
#> cd [APACHE_1.3.19_SOURCE_DIR]
6. (NOTE: Make sure you use the GNU version of the "patch"
program for this step.) Type:
#> patch -p0 <fp-patch-apache_1.3.19
7. Type:
#> ./configure --prefix=[APACHE_INSTALL_DIR] --enable-module=so
--add-module=mod_frontpage.c
8. Type:
#> make
9. Type:
